The Chicago Bears have managed to dispel the rumors regarding wide receiver Allen Robinson's desire to be traded amid their ongoing contract negotiations. Both sides are now doing some damage control in order to keep the focus on the 2020 NFL season.

Robinson has since doubled down on his desire to remain in Chicago for the long haul, per ESPN's Jeff Dickerson:

“I'm not going get into that [trade] detail, but like I said before, my heart and spirit has never wavered as far as the city of Chicago and playing for this organization. Obviously you dive into the business of the game and there's different variables that go into that. But how I feel about my teammates, how I feel about this team, how I feel about this city and everything like that has never wavered. When you're in this business and in a situation like this, things come up.”

Although it is encouraging to see Robinson make efforts to provide some assurance, the Bears will need to do their part in order to make it come to fruition. He is playing out the final season of his current deal that will pay him $13 million.

A number of teams were able to give star wideouts a lucrative payday heading into the 2020 campaign such as Arizona Cardinals’ DeAndre Hopkins, the Los Angeles Chargers’ Keenan Allen and the Los Angeles Rams’ Cooper Kupp. It is safe to say that Robinson is using their done deals as a benchmark for his looming extension.

For now, it seems the Bears have managed to avert disaster by convincing Robinson to at least stick around for the entire season.
