Chicago Bears assistant coach Mike Furrey is proud of wide receiver Taylor Gabriel's growth as a player over the course of a season.

Furrey spoke about Gabriel's development with The Athletic's Kevin Kevin Fishbain on June 3.

“Last year…we're all sitting here like, ‘You haven't done anything.'

Fast forward to now, he hasn't missed a practice. He hasn't tried to miss a practice. He wants to practice. He wants to be in there with (quarterback) Mitch (Trubisky).

He wants to know, is he doing the right thing, did I see what he was doing. That's a huge growth in a player when they can take a step back and say, ‘Okay, I want to become better. Tell me what I need to do.'”

Gabriel's 67 receptions and 688 receiving yards were the second-highest among the Bears' wide receivers last season. He also recorded a 72 percent catch rate – the highest among the same group with at least 10 receptions, per Bears Wire's Brendan Sugrue.

The Bears selected two wide receivers, Riley Ridley and Emanuel Hall, in the 2019 NFL Draft in April. Despite Gabriel's respectable production in 2018, he could find himself on the bubble if he doesn't shape up. Furrey's words speak volumes of a revitalized Taylor Gabriel.

Gabriel helped the Bears win 12 games in the 2018 NFL season. Chicago is a bona fide Super Bowl contender in 2019 and Gabriel figures to play an integral role in the Bears' mission of winning Super Bowl LIV in February.
