The Chicago Bears ushered in quite the conundrum at quarterback by bringing in Nick Foles to compete with Mitch Trubisky under center. It seems the latter's fate as the future, franchise quarterback is still hardly set in stone.

The Bears will be hosting a quarterback competition to determine their starter for the 2020 NFL season. According to Mark Grote of WSCR Radio, offensive coordinator Bill Lazor is still optimistic about Trubisky's future prospects:

“I feel very good about the talks we've had. His future is in his hands. It's up to you. I think he's got a lot of good football ahead of him.”

There is no denying that the potential is there for Trubisky. After all, the Bears made quite the investment to trade up and take him with the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he has struggled to take that next step into emerging as a bonafide, franchise cornerstone.

Trubisky managed to show some promise in his first year under head coach Matt Nagy, however, the pair fell vastly short of the expectations they set leading up to the 2019 campaign. The Bears have since made some significant changes to their coaching staff starting with the hiring of Lazor to replace former offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich.

It is safe to say that Lazor will have plenty of say when it comes to picking a starter this offseason. His comments indicate that while he is still enamored by Trubisky's skill set, he will need to prove himself by being out Foles for the job.
