The Chicago Bears acquired Nick Foles in a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars earlier this offseason and it's safe to say that Brian Urlacher wasn't a fan of the move. Ahead of Chicago's quarterback competition, Urlacher vehemently defended Mitch Trubisky after the Foles trade.

“You know, I personally like Mitch. They went to the playoffs two years ago with Mitch as starting quarterback — the defense was great, I know that, but early on in the offseason, the Bears said ‘Mitch is our guy, we’re gonna stick with him, he was our No. 2 pick from a couple years ago,’ … and then you go trade for Foles about a month later, you know, I’m not sure how much confidence that puts in Mitch,” Urlacher said, via ESPN's First Take. “I didn’t love the trade. I like Nick Foles as a quarterback, he’s a really good quarterback. I just — if you’re saying a guy’s your guy, let him be your guy.”

When the 2019 season concluded, the Bears exclaimed that Trubisky would be the starter in 2020. However, that belief suddenly changed when the team chose to make a trade for Foles.

With the addition of Foles, Chicago is going to hold an open competition for the starting job this offseason. Seeing that Foles is making exponentially more money, he likely has the edge over Trubisky at this current moment. Not to mention, he has prior experience with head coach Matt Nagy.

Even though he's made the playoffs with the Bears, Trubisky forced Chicago's hand after his dismal showing last season. While fans are content with having someone other than Trubisky start, Urlacher believes the former No. 2 pick should be under center in 2020.
