The Chicago Bears have acquired kicker Eddy Pineiro in a trade with the Oakland Raiders.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that in exchange, the Raiders received the Bears' conditional seventh-round pick in 2021.

According to The Chicago Tribune's Dan Wiederer, Pineiro becomes the third Bears kicker under contract. The other two are Chris Blewitt and Elliott Fry.

Prior to the trade for Piniero, the Bears held an eight-man kicking competition over the weekend. The aspiring kickers included Redford Jones, John Baron, Casey Bednarski, Spencer Evans, Emmit Carpenter, and Justin Yoon, per The Chicago Tribune report.

The Bears cut Jones and Baron. Wiederer says the rest, who were tryout kickers, didn't receive offers.

Wiederer also asked Bears head coach Matt Nagy after minicamp practice on Sunday if he expects the starting kicker to come from the eight-man competition.

Great question. I feel strongly that it will happen. But again, I don't know. There are so many things that can go between now and the start of the season.

I wish I could tell you I knew (what) was going to happen. But I really honestly don't have an answer for you on that.

The 23-year-old Pineiro enters his second NFL season. He signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2018. Oakland placed him on injured reserve on September 1, 2018.

Pineiro should give Blewitt and Fry stiff competition for the starting kicker position. The Bears are still reeling from Cody Parkey's missed field goal in the 2018 NFC Wild Card Game.

Hopefully, the next starter will exceed fans' expectations.
