The Chicago Bears have re-signed linebacker Aaron Lynch on a one-year deal, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Lynch is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 13 games, making three starts. During that time, he registered 16 tackles, three sacks and an interception.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Carolina, was originally selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round (150th pick overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft.

He appeared in all 16 contests during his rookie season and was impressive, finishing with 23 tackles, six sacks and four passes defended. Then, the following year, Lynch posted similar numbers, totaling 38 tackles and 6.5 sacks.

The Cape Coral, Fl. native then fell off the next two years, playing in just 14 games combined in 2016 and 2017 and recording a total of 22 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery over both seasons. He was also suspended for the first four games of the 2016 campaign as a result of violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Lynch then proceeded to sign with the Bears last March and took a rather big step in revitalizing his career, as his first season in Chicago was a heck of a lot more productive than his final two seasons in San Francisco.
