Chicago Bears rookie Roquan Smith is finally reporting to camp after he and the team finally reached an agreement but it meant both sides had to compromise according to Pro Football Talk.

According to a source through Pro Football Talk, the big sticking point came with guaranteed money being voided because of suspension. In this contract, if Smith is suspended for something that happens on the field (for example, lowering the helmet, hit on a defenseless receiver, or roughing the quarterback) the Bears won't have a chance to void his guaranteed contract. The only way that his guarantee will void in this situation is if the NFL gives a suspension for three games or more for something that happens on the field.

If there is a fight on the field and Smith is suspended for one game, he is in the clear. If it is for two games or more and he is the aggressor that could be enough to trigger voiding the guarantees in his contract.

Off the field, it seems to be fair game in terms of suspension, and he can lose his guarantees for being suspended for something that happens away from the gridiron. Smith has never had an issue with disciplinary actions taken against them, so hopefully, the Bears and Smith will never have to face a situation where that will come up.

It appears both sides are happy with the new contract and are glad to have Smith in training camp. Now it's time for Smith to catch up with the rest of the team and get ready for Week 1.
