The Chicago Bears have signed linebacker Barkevious Mingo to a one-year deal, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Mingo spent the 2019 campaign with the Houston Texans, playing in all 16 games and logging six tackles in a limited role.

The 29-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Cleveland Browns with the sixth overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie year, finishing with 42 tackles, five sacks and four passes defended. The following season, Mingo participated in 15 games and posted similar numbers, tallying 42 tackles, a couple of sacks and a fumble recovery.

By his third season in the league, it was becoming more apparent that Mingo was a disappointment, as he totaled just 24 tackles, an interception and four passes defended during what ended up being his final season with the Browns in 2015.

That ensuing offseason, Cleveland traded Mingo to the New England Patriots, where he proceeded to play all 16 games in 2016. However, his role was very limited, as he recorded 11 tackles.

Since then, Mingo has played for three different teams in three years, spending time with the Indianapolis Colts and Seattle Seahawks before linking up with the Texans in 2019.

His most productive season during that stretch came with the Colts in 2017, when he registered 47 tackles, a pair of sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Mingo represents a depth addition for the Bears, as he will be joining a team that already has a fearsome linebacking corps that includes Khalil Mack, Danny Trevathan, Roquan Smith and recent addition Robert Quinn.
