Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is moving on after all. Despite supposed efforts by the Washington Redskins to retain the veteran safety in free agency, Clinton-Dix has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.

Conventional wisdom was that Washington was ready to move on from Clinton-Dix after the team agreed to terms on a record six-year, $84 million contract with free agent safety Landon Collins on the first day of the league's legal tampering period. Subsequent reporting indicated otherwise, though, as did the ensuring release of inside linebacker Zach Brown, which afforded the Redskins the additional financial flexibility it would need to re-sign Clinton-Dix.

Instead of returning to the nation's capital, though, the five-year veteran heads to the Windy City to fill the Bears' void at safety. Up-and-comer Adrian Amos, who Chicago hoped to re-sign, agreed to terms with the rival Green Bay Packers earlier this week, setting the stage for the team to sign Clinton-Dix.

The Redskins acquired Clinton-Dix from the Packers midway through last season in exchange for a fourth-round pick. He struggled to match the success he enjoyed on a relatively consistent basis over his first four and-a-half years in the league, however, failing to pick off a pass and generally struggling when asked to make tackles on playmakers in space.

In nine games with Washington last season, Clinton-Dix had 66 combined tackles, three passes defensed, and one forced fumble. Washington, surprisingly, was more effective defensively before he joined the team, too.
