Chicago Bears offensive lineman Germain Ifedi is staying with the team, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Ifedi signed a one year contract worth up to $5 million this offseason.

The offensive lineman fit in well for the Bears last season, during which he started 16 games either as a right guard or a tackle. The former Seattle Seahawk will potentially be filling the right tackle role for the Chicago this season—the position that opened after the team did not pick up the option on Bobby Massie. Ifedi, who has started 76 career games, earned a 65.5 grade from Pro Football Focus, which was the highest PFF grade of his career.

Filling in the role of Massie, Germain Ifedi is a valuable player who can provide efficient starter minutes for the Bears. The 26-year-old was drafted 31st overall in 2016 and started at right guard as a rookie for the Seahawks. In 2017, Ifedi took on the right tackle role and led the league with 16 accepted penalties in the same year. A year after, Ifedi ranked 12th out of 64 qualifying tackles in pass block win rate with and 38th of 65th in 2019. He then became a promising asset for the Bears after a relatively good first year with the team.

The Bears finished second in the NFC North division last year with the record of 8-8. Their offseason moves have made headlines so far after recently signing quarterback Andy Dalton to a one-year, $10 million contract.
