As the Chicago Bears are doing their due diligence as they look for their next kicker, and the latest guy to get a workout is Caleb Sturgis.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that Sturgis will be working out on Wednesday. Former AAF kickers Younghoe Koo and Nick Rose are also getting workouts. One thing all three of these kickers have in common at one point they were kickers for the Los Angeles Chargers.

Sturgis started the first five games last year for the Chargers before getting hurt and giving up the job to Michael Badgley. He did return later in the season for one game but missed all three kicks and was released.

Overall with the Chargers, Sturgis went 9-13 on field goals and 9-15 on extra points. If the Bears or any other team is going to sign Sturgis, they have to be confident he has figured out his issues on extra points, because that is where the Bears struggled last year in the kicking game.

Cody Parkey was released by the Bears after he struggled for most of the year and cost them a chance at a win in the playoffs. The Bears have already signed Redford Jones and Chris Blewitt to the roster, and if one of these guys is signed it's going to be more competition for the job.

After the workouts wrap up this afternoon, there should be a clearer picture if the team is going to sign any of the three kickers or just roll with the two guys already on the roster.
