The Chicago Bears traded for quarterback Nick Foles this offseason. That put the future of Mitchell Trubisky into even more doubt.

However, according to Patrick Finley of The Sun Times, wide receiver and return man Cordarrelle Patterson revealed a bold admission about Trubisky.

It already appeared that the Bears had lost a lot of confidence in their quarterback. Despite taking him second overall in 2017, the Bears have had little reason to get excited about Trubisky.

And 2019 was a down year in a major way. After taking multiple steps forward in 2018, Trubsiky took even more backwards in 2019.

Despite playing in one more game (making 82 more pass attempts), Trubisky threw for nearly 100 less yards and seven less touchdown passes. He threw two less touchdowns, but the accuracy still appeared to be much worse.

Nothing went right for Trubisky in 2019. And as a result of that, the Bears were one of the most disappointing teams in the entire NFL last season.

This brought into question many things about Trubisky, as well as head coach Matt Nagy.

It appears Patterson has sort of confirmed and denied the questions of Trubisky's leadership.

By making that statement, Patterson is admitting that Trubisky was not much of a leader for the Bears in the past. However, those days seem to be behind him. Patterson feels he is more of a leader now.

Could it be the struggles he had last year? Maybe Trubsiky does not want to repeat them ever again? Or maybe it was Chicago bringing in Foles. He has some legitimate competition now and might realize he needs to step it up if he wants to keep his job.

It could go even further than that. Maybe Trubisky realized that not only is 2020 in danger, but his entire career is. If he does not step it up soon, his days as a starter in the NFL could be over for good.

Whatever the reason, it appears Trubisky is taking the necessary steps to become a locker room leader. And Patterson has taken notice.
