The Chicago Bears defense was clicking on all cylinders in their 31-15 win against the Washington Redskins in Week 3. Linebacker Danny Trevathan feels the team has become quite generous when it comes to getting its defensive players stats.
There were a number of players on defense that managed to make big plays against Washington's offense. According to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times, Trevathan says their performance had them feeling like Oprah.
“You know, you get a turnover, you get pick, you get a sack,” Trevathan said. “Kinda like Oprah.”
This is certainly quite the analogy from Trevathan. It is safe to say that there is plenty of truth to this notion after what the Bears did on Monday night. Time and time again they were able to put the offense in premier scoring position thanks to the turnovers by the defense.
Their performance was headlined by defensive end Khalil Mack's stellar outing that saw him register two strip-sacks in the first half on quarterback Case Keenum. Although penalties by some of his teammates wiped out an even bigger day, he was nothing short of a one-man wrecking crew against the porous Redskins' offensive line and he has now put in an early bid for Defensive Player of the Year.
The pressure Mack was generating up front led to some advantageous opportunities for the secondary. Safety Ha-Ha Clinton Dix was able to take full advantage by coming away with two interceptions, one of which he took for a touchdown.
This performance was just what the Bears defense needed to realize what it is capable of. They will now be looking to keep it going in a crucial NFC North matchup with the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.
