The Chicago Bears special teams group loss another member this week with the NFC North team waiving former AAF placekicker Elliott Fry. Fry had signed a three-year deal with the club in the offseason as the Bears search for that unidentifiable stable kicker to knock home field goals and extra points.

In the wake of Fry's waiving, kicker Eddy Pineiro remains on the roster as the only foot soldier. He reacted to the Fry news on Sunday accordingly (via the Chicago Tribune's Rich Campbell):

“Honestly, it doesn’t change anything. If I don’t make kicks, I’m going to be gone like everybody else. The way I look at it, I haven’t won the competition. … But, yeah, I feel a lot more confident.”

Pineiro, 23, is a 5-foot-11 kicker out of the University of Florida. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Oakland Raiders in 2018 and missed the entire season last year due to a groin injury.

In the offseason, the Bears traded a conditional 2021 seventh-round draft pick to the Raiders for the kicker. The Bay Area franchise will receive the future draft pick from the Bears should Pineiro remain on the 2019 roster beyond five games.

Chicago is still searching for the special teams help it needs to close out games. Last season, while the defense held strong and quarterback Mitchell Trubisky continued to develop, the Bears' field goal unit was often a source for grieve among players and fans.

Kicker Cody Parkey was released by the team last February and the future continues to be uncertain for the Windy City organization's special teams.
