As the Chicago Bears look to prepare for the season, there is one dark cloud hanging over the organization, Roquan Smith's contract.

The Bears rookie linebacker and the team are at odds over some wordage in the contract, and general manager Ryan Pace said on the team's radio pregame show that he had no update on when Smith might report to camp, and there really hasn't been much progress made.

“There are really no new developments to this point. It’s something that we’re working through and obviously I feel like a broken record here but we want him to be here but it’s just part of the process,” Pace said via Pro Football Talk.

According to Pro Football Talk, the sticking point is over guaranteed money. Smith's camp doesn't want the guaranteed money to be voided if Smith is suspended.

Smith's camp isn't concerned about him getting suspended but don't want that precedent started. Pace said out of respect of Smith and his representation he doesn't want to talk any more about the situation.

“I hope people can respect it,” Pace said. “I definitely appreciate the questions and understand the questions, but out of respect to the player and the agent it is a sensitive topic and I think it’s best if we just keep that behind the scenes.”

Neither side seems interested in backing down from this fight so there is a chance that this holdout could extend for a while longer and it wouldn't be that shocking at this point if it is extended into the season.
