The Chicago Bears had a built-in advantage over other teams courting free agent safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix The five-year pro credited incumbent Bears safety and former Alabama teammate Eddie Jackson as being a driving force behind his decision to spurn the Washington Redskins and sign with the Bears earlier this week.

“Eddie played a big role. He’s always been a fan of mine since he came to Alabama,” Clinton-Dix said on Friday, per the Chicago Tribune. “He talked to me in this process about the culture in Chicago, and I bought in. I was on for the ride. And I’m excited about it.”

Clinton-Dix and Jackson were teammates for one season in Tuscaloosa. The junior All-American and upstart freshman cornerback, respectively, both started in the Crimson Tide's secondary, leading Alabama to a 12-1 record and a victory in the BCS National Championship Game.

Needless to say, Clinton-Dix is looking forward to roaming the same defensive backfield as his college teammate again – especially now that he and Jackson are both playing safety.

“Me and Eddie, we’re very similar players, and that makes it tough on quarterbacks, he said, per the Chicago Sun Times. “We both can play left and right. It’s going to be fun and a challenge for other teams.”

Clinton-Dix was traded from the Green Bay Packers to the Redskins last season, finishing with 66 combined tackles, three passes defensed, and one forced fumble over nine games with Washington.

Jackson, meanwhile, thrived as a sophomore, finishing with six interceptions – two of which were returned for touchdowns – and 15 passes defensed, earning First Team All-Pro honors.
