It’s not a complete week for the Chicago Bears if they don't have a boneheaded play in a game. Chicago cornerback Marcus Cooper delivered one on Sunday when he wasted a grand opportunity to score a defensive touchdown.

Just before the end of the second quarter of the Bears’ Sunday matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Chicago blocked the Steelers’ field-goal attempt. The ball landed in Cooper's arms, who then made a mad dash to the other end of the field. However, he slowed down near the end zone, thinking that no Steeler would be able to catch him.

Not true.

Steelers tight end Vance McDonald didn’t surrender on the play and channeled his inner Don Beebee to strip the ball from Cooper just before the cornerback reached the end zone.

Chicago head coach John Fox was asked of Cooper’s blunder following the game and was a bit forgiving during the postgame presser, as reported by Joe Aguilar of the Daily Herald.

“He will learn from it,” Fox said of Cooper. “Nobody feels worse than he does. It's a matter of focus and finishing. He understands that.”

Fox might've had a much different opinion about the play if the Bears had lost the game. Fortunately for Chicago, Cooper’s error didn’t cost them a win, as the Bears eked out a 23-17 overtime victory.

Cooper has a chance to redeem himself this week in Lambeau Field against the rival Green Bay Packers.
