It's been a hot mess of a season for the Chicago Bears. Their defense is one of the worst in the league while the offense can't move the ball down the field. Additionally, Bears fans are making it well known they want Matt Nagy fired. Justin Fields has shown improvement throughout the season, which has been the lone bright spot within the organization, which has been a mess all year.

According to Bears Insider, Bears chairman George McCaskey ordered the Bears coaching staff to name Fields as the permanent starting quarterback before their game against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 5.

It's well known that Nagy wanted Andy Dalton to be the starting QB throughout the season, but was forced to play Fields after Dalton went down with an injury (via Hub Arkush).

It’s unclear how the directive was given to the coaching staff, whether there was a conversation in person between McCaskey and Bears head coach Matt Nagy, or if general manager Ryan Pace was directed to give the instructions to Nagy. The move was against the wishes of Nagy.

It's never a good sign when the chairman of an organization is forcing the coaching staff to start a certain player. Of course, Fields is the future, as he has the potential to finally be the franchise quarterback the Bears have been searching for. Simultaneously, the NFL is a business. Having Fields under center sells tickets and boosts jersey sales.

We'll see how it all plays out, but the Bears might be worse off than previously perceived. The leadership within the organization has been at odds since the beginning of the season. It's no wonder Nagy will be leaving after the Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions. The Bears will be searching for a new coach and could find a solid candidate.
