Chicago Bears fans have been more than clear that they want Justin Fields starting over Andy Dalton. That hasn't been in question.

While Bears coach Matt Nagy wants to go with the veteran option to start the season, judging by preseason performance, he probably should give it a little more thought:

If we're solely judging by both quarterback's parting pass to end their preseason runs, Fields is the clear winner. Andy Dalton threw an ugly pick, while Justin Fields threw an absolute dime that had Bears fans swooning.

One pass doesn't define any QB, but theirs virtually served as a microcosm for how the Bears QB battle went in preseason. Andy Dalton is a perfectly capable signal-caller, but Justin Fields was spectacular in limited action.

Bears TE Jesper Horsted pinpointed that exact play as a good example of what Fields has done all camp long. To his eyes, it was no fluke:

“That was an example of the power of Justin. He's great at extending plays. He has been looking great all camp.”

Bears fans may not be privy to what's happening in practice, but they certainly like what they're seeing from the limited action available from preseason:

If there's any consolation, it's that Matt Nagy isn't blind to what Justin Fields is doing. Perhaps there's simply a directive to give Dalton a chance given their decision to spend $10 million on him. But as long as Fields continues to impress, he'll have the Bears coach itching to pull the trigger for a change:

“He just goes to a different place on game day,” Nagy said of Fields after the Bears' final preseason game.

Nobody's going to disagree with you, coach.
