Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields was in attendance for Chicago Cubs Opening Day 2.0 Friday at Wrigley Field, and fans showed him plenty of love.

The Bears first-round pick was shown on the video board fully decked out in Cubs gear, garnering large cheers from fans in the ballpark. Jesse Rogers of ESPN even said it was the “Biggest ovation yet.”

It comes as no surprise Fields got big cheers. The Bears have almost always been the most popular sporting franchise in Chicago, regardless of how other teams are performing. Fields, the No. 11 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, is now the future of that franchise.

The Bears paid a large price in order to move up nine spots for the chance to take the former Ohio State star, but fans in Chicago hardly seemed to care about the cost. This is a franchise long starved for a true franchise quarterback, and Fields seems to have the tools to be one of the most gifted signal-callers in the NFL.

Fields has terrific size and a lively arm. He threw one of the best deep balls of any quarterback in college football last season. Not to mention, he has blazing speed for a quarterback and is not afraid to get downhill and scramble for extra yards.

The Bears have maintained veteran Andy Dalton is the presumptive starter heading into training camp. However, head coach Matt Nagy has already been raving about Fields' attitude, and the fans could be salivating to see the youngster take the field sooner, rather than later.
