In the last few days, the Chicago Bears have kept a close eye on the health of All-Pro defensive end Khalil Mack, who is dealing with an ankle injury that he suffered against the Miami  Dolphins last Sunday.

The Bears have put Mack through tests to see where he stands at physically, which has shifted more attention toward his availability for Week 7 action against the New England Patriots. Head coach Matt Nagy on Wednesday morning clarified that the Pro Bowler is on a day-to-day status at this point.

There is obviously some sort of concern with the situation even it's minimal. Mack is a huge piece of the puzzle that makes the defense tick and take them to the next level where they have been performing like one of the best units in the NFL. The Bears are hedging toward taking the precautionary approach with the entire matter in the coming days that doesn't appear to put his status for Sunday's tilt in question.

Chicago will once again be leaning on Mack to be a major part of their defensive game plan against the Patriots. He has been producing like a legitimate candidate to win the Defensive Player of the Year award as he's top 10 in the league with 5.0 sacks and tied for first with four forced fumbles that have helped elevate the Bears to the next level that could continue to help propel them to more wins in the process.

If they hope to have the chance to upend Tom Brady and the Patriots on Sunday, it will require them to provide consistent pressure on him led by Mack. This is a prime opportunity for them to put together a statement performance while pushing them forward after a disappointing outing against the Dolphins. These next few days will be key in determining how limited and effective he will be on the field for the game.
