The Chicago Bears enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in the 2018 NFL season. As a result, head coach Matt Nagy knows expectations are as high as ever moving forward.

The Bears find themselves in unfamiliar territory after enduring so many losing seasons in recent years. Nagy stressed the importance of making sure his team does not settle during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio:

“For our culture, our organization, we got off on the right foot, right?” Nagy said. “So we ended up 12-4, lost in the playoffs and now the big thing is let’s not get complacent. Just because we had a good year last year, that’s not here any more. We’ve got to start 0-0. But when you have good people like we do on our team — good human beings — it helps.”

“There’s definitely pressure and expectations now, but we wouldn’t want it any other way,” Nagy said.

It is encouraging to see that Nagy is not willing to let his players rest on their merits just yet. They enjoyed the best season that any Bears team has had in a long time after dominating the NFC North en route to the playoffs. Regardless, they are still far from reaching their goal of winning a Super Bowl.

Chicago has made a number of notable splashes in recent years through free agency and the NFL Draft. Their healthy balance of veteran experience and young talent led to their Bears' boasting one of the most formidable defense's in the league last season. Meanwhile, the emergence of quarterback Mitchell Trubisky under Nagy has helped the offense carry their own weight as well.

Regardless, it will be interesting to see how Chicago fares with a target on their back moving forward.
