The Chicago Bears have managed to solidify some depth in their backfield going into the 2019 NFL season. Running back Mike Davis is looking forward to seeing which role he takes on moving forward.

Davis joined a crowded backfield this offseason alongside running backs Tarik Cohen and David Montgomery.

According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Davis is optimistic about how the dynamic between them will play out:

“I can’t really tell you,” Davis said. “That's the secret. We’ll see when we get there. Just know I am going to be very happy once the season starts. I just can’t wait till we kill it with me, Reek and David.”

It is encouraging to see that Davis does not seem to be bothered with the surplus of talent in the backfield.

The Bears decided to switch things up after parting ways with former workhorse running back Jordan Howard this offseason. Howard had served as the early-down back in short yardage situations before the emergence of Cohen relegated him to a complementary role.

While Chicago is confident in the pint-sized playmaker's ability to carry the load, they will be looking to avoid any wear and tear by giving the grueling carries to the other backs.

As a result, it appears Davis will be competing with Montgomery for a share of the touches. The Bears made quite the investment when they traded up to take the rookie in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. It is safe to say that they are confident in Montgomery's ability to make an immediate impact in this league.

It will be interesting to see where Davis ultimately falls on the pecking order once the season starts.
