It’s hard to feel bad for someone who’s earning top money playing football, but the situation Chicago Bears quarterback Mike Glennon has found himself in is something that could hit some right in the feels.

Two years ago, Glennon was beaten out for the starting quarterback role by then rookie Jameis Winston with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. These days, his grip on the starting quarterback designation appears to be loosening with another rookie in Mitch Trubisky growing bigger and bigger in his rear-view mirror. \

Glennon even went as far as to say that both situations feel very similar, according to Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun Times.

“I mean, déjà vu,” Bears quarterback Mike Glennon said.

Glennon signed a three-year, $45-million contract with Chicago earlier this offseason, thinking that Jay Cutler’s departure meant that he’d be the team’s starter. While he remains atop the pecking order. Trubisky’s solid play in preseason games and his growing presence during practices have the five-year veteran out of NC State concerned.

Glennon admitted that he was a little surprised by Trubisky’s increased workload — “They just told me what it was and, ‘OK, time to start getting ready,’” he said — but said he can lean on his previous experience fighting for a starting job.

Trubisky turned a lot of heads in Week 1 of the preseason when he stepped in for Glennon and went 18-for-25 for 166 yards and a touchdown in a 24-17 loss to the Denver Broncos. He followed that up with an efficient 6-for-8 (60 passing yards and a touchdown) night during a 24-23 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Trubisky is not going to let up and will be looking to build on his strong performances. Hopefully for Glennon, it won't be enough to lose his job.
