Things have not exactly gone well for Mitchell Trubisky in his first three seasons under center for the Chicago Bears, and that is putting it lightly.

As a matter of fact, Trubisky was so underwhelming in 2019 that the Bears went out and traded for veteran quarterback Nick Foles to provide some competition at the position.

But incoming Chicago wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. is confident that Trubisky will be the starter:

“I believe Trubisky is going to be our starter,” Ginn said, via Will Selva of NFL Network. “I'm willing to play for whoever it is and fight for whoever it is.”

Trubisky, who played his collegiate football at the University of North Carolina, was originally selected by the Bears with the second overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. That was eight spots ahead of Patrick Mahomes and 10 picks before Deshaun Watson.

The results have not been great.

While Mahomes is universally regarded as the best quarterback in football and Watson is an elite signal-caller in his own right, Trubisky has struggled to find his footing.

This past season, the 25-year-old threw for 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 63.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 83.

To make matters worse, the Bears, who were viewed as Super Bowl contenders by many going into the season, went just 8-8 and missed the playoffs entirely. That came after a 2018-19 campaign in which they won 12 games and captured the NFC North division crown.

There is still time for Trubisky to turn things around, but it appears that his leash has certainly gotten shorter in the Windy City.
