Chicago Bears fourth-year quarterback Mitchell Trubisky may have a reason to worry heading into the 2020 NFL regular season. The NFC North franchise traded for established veteran signal-caller Nick Foles.

According to the 25-year-old former second-overall selection of the 2017 draft, though, Trubisky is only confident about his future under center.

Per Mark Podolski in The News-Herald, via Bears Wire:

“I texted Mitch right after all of that, and he was like, ‘Let’s go! Let’s go!.' Mitch is a competitive and confident guy. I don’t think he’s too worried about Nick Foles. He’s motivated more than ever, and definitely not going to bow down to (Foles). I know this, Mitch will fight and compete.”

“Mitch knows he had a down year,” said McClure, who played football and basketball with Trubisky at Mentor. “But his confidence is at an all-time high.”

Foles, a Super Bowl MVP with the Philadelphia Eagles, was traded to the Bears this spring for a 2020 fourth-round selection after his very brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who had signed him to a four-year, $88 million contract. A shoulder injury prevented the vet from getting snaps (along with rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew), and Jacksonville decided to send him on his way to the Windy City.

Could Foles take away snaps from Trubisky? The then-third-year gunslinger was heavily criticized during the 2019 season for a drop-off in productive following a sophomore surge in the year prior. Trubisky threw fewer touchdowns and for a worse completion percentage in his junior campaign with the Bears, so summer anticipates a heated QB competition for the Bears.
