The Chicago Bears are in an interesting situation heading into this offseason at the quarterback position. Mitchell Trubisky struggled mightily in 2019 and the team could look to bring in a veteran quarterback to push him for the starting job. That quarterback could end up being Cincinnati Bengals' longtime starter Andy Dalton.

Pro Football Focus made the bold prediction that the Bears will acquire Dalton from the Bengals this offseason. The move makes a lot of sense, but at the same time Dalton isn't exactly viewed as a legitimate quarterback for a playoff hungry franchise.

Dalton would be brought in for the sole purpose of motivating Trubisky. It seems very unlikely that he would end up winning the starting job, especially with the support that head coach Matt Nagy has thrown behind Trubisky. However, Dalton does have a big arm and if Trubisky struggles, the Bears could put him out on the field and give him a chance.

In 2019 with the Bengals, Dalton played in 13 games, although he did get benched briefly in favor of Ryan Finley. He completed just 59.5 percent of his pass attempts for 3,494 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. A.J. Green didn't play a single game this season, which contributed to Dalton's lower numbers.

Needless to say, the Bears are going to be an intriguing team to keep an eye on this offseason. After being one of the best teams in the NFC in 2018 and receiving Super Bowl hype heading into 2019, they missed the playoffs.

Nagy and company may have to make some tough decisions. At the end of the day, winning is the only thing that matters in the NFL. Trubisky seems to be the long-term quarterback in Chicago, but if he isn't performing then his starting job could be in jeopardy.

Chicago's answer may not come in the form of Dalton, but a trade for him would certainly make sense. After all, you don't usually win if you don't take risks.
