There was some controversy sparked earlier this week when Deshaun Watson shared on Twitter that the Chicago Bears didn't speak to him before the 2017 NFL Draft. In response to Watson's tweet, former NFL All-Pro Roddy White claims that Chicago doesn't embrace black quarterbacks.

Without a doubt, the Bears have made plenty of mistakes at quarterback over the years. But to say they didn't select certain quarterbacks due to the color of their skin is a bold claim by White. Also, it was proven that Watson did speak to the Bears in some capacity ahead of the draft.

Of course, the saga involving Watson and the Bears began in the 2017 NFL Draft. In the first round of the draft, Chicago chose to trade up to the No. 2 pick to select Mitch Trubisky.

During the pre-draft process, Trubisky, Watson, and Patrick Mahomes were considered the top three quarterback available. While Trubisky had just one season as a starter under his belt, Watson was coming off back-to-back National Championship appearances.

On the other hand, Mahomes was considered a project despite his otherworldly arm talent. Given all of the information they compiled, the Bears still chose to side with Trubisky, hoping the decision would pay off.

Fast forward to now and it's safe to say that Chicago made a grave mistake selecting Trubisky instead of Watson or Mahomes. To this day, it remains to be seen exactly why the Bears made the decision they did.

For White, a former receiver for the Atlanta Falcons, he believes it was due to Watson being a black quarterback. Regardless of whether or not that is the reason why, the Bears can't go back and change their questionable choice.
