The Chicago Bears surprisingly deactivated linebacker Roquan Smith for Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings, citing “personal issues.” He didn't dress but was present on the sideline and was talking with teammates on the bench.

Smith returned to Halas Hall on Tuesday. However, he didn't speak to reporters, according to multiple reports.

The Bears have been mum about Smith's situation, as coach Matt Nagy dodged questions on Monday about the linebacker, saying it's a “personal issue.”

“Again, he's completely a personal issue,” Nagy reiterated on Monday, via ESPN. “For us, it's something that we're gonna leave it at that right now.”

Over the weekend, Twitter warriors assumed Smith was involved in an illegal car wreck. Nagy wouldn't answer questions about it (personal issue). Nor would he say he would travel to London for the team's Week 5 game; you guessed it, personal issue.

His teammates aren't giving answers to the matter, but are offering support.

Can’t really speak on it,” said linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski, via Chris Emma of 670 The Score. “It’s hard to say. It’s a personal issue. We’re there for him if he needs it. It is what it is.”

Said edge rusher Khalil Mack:

“It’s something that’s in-house. But at the same time, we know he’s going to get better and we look forward to him getting back out there with us.”

It's unknown what Smith is going through and how long he will be out.

What is known is Smith is an integral part of Chicago's defensive success. After the Bears selected him at No. 8 overall in 2018, he led the team in tackles as a rookie (122).
