The Chicago Bears continues to retool their receiving corps. Having already landed a shiny new receiver in Allen Robinson and a fresh tight end in Trey Burton this offseason, the Bears are reportedly nearing a deal with former Atlanta Falcons wideout Taylor Gabriel. This is according to ESPN’s Andrew Hawkins, whose source is no other than the subject himself.

Gabriel should not have a difficult time securing a significant role with the Bears. After all, Chicago could use a ton of help in their passing attack after finish the 2017 season the worst teams in that department. Chicago was plain lethargic last season on offense, as it finished 29th in scoring points, 30th in total offense, and dead-last in passing offense with a pathetic average of 175.7 passing yards per game.

Taylor Gabriel mostly spent his time as a slot receiver in his two seasons with the Falcons. Over that time, the Abilene Christian product amassed 957 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 29 games. In 2016, he tied Julio Jones for the team’s lead with six receiving touchdowns.

Gabriel also makes a living out of being a big-play threat, as he has averaged at least 11.5 yards per catch in three of his four seasons so far in the NFL. He began his professional career in 2014 with the Cleveland Browns and played for two seasons there before being waived by the team in 2016.
