Veteran wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. signed with the Chicago Bears in April, and he may have already disappointed fans of his new team — though not because of his on-field performance. Instead, Ginn Jr. simply hinted that Bears fans should expect Mitch Trubisky under center for Week 1.

During an appearance on NFL Network's Good Morning Football on Wednesday, Ginn said he thinks “Trubisky is going to be our starter,” and added that he's “willing to play for whoever it is and fight for whoever it is.”

Trubisky is the incumbent, though Chicago traded for Nick Foles earlier this offseason, ostensibly to challenge Trubisky for the job. After three roller-coaster seasons from the former No. 2 overall pick, many Bears fans are ready to move on from Trubisky. Ginn's former quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, along with former MVP Cam Newton, also remain available on the free agent wire.

In three seasons catching passes from Drew Brees for the New Orleans Saints, Ginn tallied 100 catches for 1,417 yards and eight touchdowns. At 34 years old, Ginn remains a speed demon, evidenced by his 14 yards per reception in 2019. Over his 13-season career, Ginn has played for four teams, amassing 5,702 yards and 33 touchdowns while playing in at least 13 games in each of his 12 seasons.

Ideally, Ginn will provide head coach Matt Nagy and offensive coordinator Ryan Pace with a vertical threat, something the Bears missed in 2019. The well-traveled wideout will likely compete for snaps with fifth-round pick Darnell Mooney, for whom Chicago traded up to nab in April's draft. The Bears ranked 29th in total offense and 25th in passing yards in 2019 on their way to an underwhelming 8-8 campaign.

Ginn also discussed what Kaepernick could bring to an NFL team, among other topics. You can check out his full interview here:

With Trubisky already having a solid understanding of the Bears' offensive system, it makes sense that Ginn would consider him the frontrunner for the starting quarterback job. But when the competition begins in earnest at training camp, it's possible that Foles could leapfrog him and be Chicago's Week 1 starter.
