Chicago Bears tight end Trey Burton had been listed as healthy all week leading up to their Wild Card matchup with the Chicago Bears. However, it appears he has now landed on the injury report.

Burton has reportedly been dealing with a groin injury. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, he is now listed as questionable for Sunday:

Bears TE Trey Burton (groin) has been added to the team’s injury report and is questionable for Sunday’s game vs. the Eagles.

This is certainly not an encouraging update for Chicago. Burton has become an integral piece of the Bears offense this season. There is no question that they will need all the firepower they can get for their matchup with the defending champs.

Burton became a household name for his part in the “Philly Special” during last year's Super Bowl. He subsequently signed a lucrative deal with the Bears this offseason and is now enjoying his best year yet. He finished the 2018 campaign with career-highs in receptions (54), yards (569), and touchdowns (6). His role as a bit of a security blanket underneath for quarterback Mitch Trubisky was supposed to pay huge dividends in the playoffs. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether or not he will be able to play.

Burton's potential absence would undoubtedly leave a huge void in the Bears offense. His only backups are tight ends Adam Shaheen and Ben Braunecker. The pair combined for just 89 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions during the 2018 campaign. Considering what is at stake, Chicago would likely take Burton at any capacity they can have him at.
