Chicago Bears tight end Trey Burton will not play in his team's NFC Wild Card Round matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, according to Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks.

Burton has been battling a groin injury that he initially sustained during the Bears' season-ending victory over the Minnesota Vikings last week.

The 27-year-old is a pretty significant part of Chicago's offense.

On the year, Burton hauled in 54 receptions for 569 yards and five touchdowns, by far the best season of his five-year career thus far.

Burton, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, went undrafted but signed with Philadelphia as a free agent in May 2014.

The Florida native did not record a single catch during his first season with the Eagles, failing to actually develop a role within Philly's offense until 2016 when he caught 37 passes for 327 yards and a score.

Last year, during the Eagles' Super Bowl campaign, Burton snared 23 balls for 248 yards while reaching the end zone five times.

Burton then proceeded to sign a four-year, $32 million contract with the Bears last March.

The Bears won 12 games and captured the NFC North division title this season, making the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-11 campaign. Chicago got off to a mediocre 3-3 start this season but then won nine of its next 10 games, only slipping up in an overtime loss to the New York Giants back on Dec. 2.

This also marks only the second postseason appearance for the Bears since 2007. They made it to the NFC Championship Game in their last playoff appearance in 2010-11.
