Rookie running back David Montgomery entered the end zone as a receiver for the first time Thursday as the Chicago Bears marched down the field in the fourth quarter to take a late lead over the Detroit Lions.

Montgomery, who has collected five scores on the ground this season, was the beneficiary of broken coverage in the red zone by Detroit, which led to the first receiving score of his career. Chicago normally deploys Tarik Cohen as its primary pass-catching running back, but Montgomery came up clutch when it mattered most.

Having logged 16 carries through the completion of the drive, the Bears' third-round Draft choice out of Iowa State has now carried the ball on double-digit occasions in 10 of his first 12 games. His role as Chicago's primary back seems to be firmly entrenched as the team's push for the playoffs approach.
