The Sacramento Kings are unlikely to reach a rookie-scale contract extension with fourth-year shooting guard Ben McLemore by the Oct. 31 deadline, according to league sources.
This would result in the Kansas product becoming a restricted free agent, giving the Kings the opportunity to match any team's offer if he is signed to an offer sheet.
McLemore was highly touted as a freshman in college, but the coaching and managing debacle that the Kings have been during his stay in the league have prevented him from finding a niche within the system.
He's recently become part of trade chatter, as previous reports involved the possibility of being traded for former Milwaukee Bucks point guard Michael Carter-Williams, who is now a member of the Chicago Bulls.
Ben McLemore has averaged 9.7 points and 2.7 rebounds during his three-year career, and it'll be solely up to him to impress in order to receive a lucrative offer from a team next offseason.
