He may have not played a single game in what would've been his first year in the NBA, but Ben Simmons is ready to move forward and put his battle with injury in the past.

The Philadelphia 76ers forward addressed the media on Thursday and admitted, via Jessica Camerato of CSN Philly, that despite not seeing any action this season, he has learned a lot about being a professional while being around his teammates.

“It was a lot of ups and downs, but at the end of the day I learned a lot just being around the guys and learning the system. It gave me a great opportunity to learn the game.”

Simmons also revealed how he felt after the Sixers announced he would be missing the entire season. He then added that he understands why he won't be immediately asked to participate in 5-on-5 drills despite already getting cleared by the team doctors.

“I definitely want to be out there. But at the same time, when I heard it, [I thought] what can I do to get better? There was no rush. We weren't in the playoffs or anything like that, so might as well take my time and make sure I'm a hundred percent.”

“Obviously they're not going to put me in a five-on-five straightaway. I've got to build up to that. It's going to take time.”

Last year's top draft pick made it known though, that if he'll be ready to play next season, he wants to play a specific role for the team.

“If I'm ready to play, I'm ready. We'll see what happens.”

“I definitely want to be a point guard and be one of the leaders.”

This is definitely good news for the Philly faithful as Simmons could provide the 76ers with a lot of versatility especially with his ability to play multiple positions, including both guard spots, despite standing 6-foot-10. With the return of Joel Embiid and the improved play of their team this season, things are looking bright for the Sixers, who are looking to put all their struggles behind them for good.
