Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green is not expected to play in his team's Week 11 matchup with the Oakland Raiders on Sunday, according to Geoff Hobson of the Bengals' team website.

Green has not played at all this season due to an ankle injury he suffered in training camp.

The initial expectation was that Green was supposed to be ready for midseason, but he has yet to get back on the field, and the fact that Cincinnati is 0-9 may have something to do with it.

Of course, Green will be a free agent at the end of the year, so returning now during what is an already lost season and risking re-injury would not be wise with a new contract on the line.

This marks the second straight season that Green has dealt with injury issues.

Last year, a toe issue kept the 31-year-old sidelined for seven games. In the nine contests he did play, he caught 46 passes for 694 yards and six touchdowns. It represented the first time Green did not make the Pro Bowl since entering the NFL as a first-round pick back in 2011.

Green tallied over 1,000 yards receiving in each of his first five seasons until injuries limited him to just 10 games in 2016. That year, he finished with 964 yards and still made the Pro Bowl.

The University of Georgia product has said he wants to remain with the Bengals long term, but given Cincinnati's current state, it will be interesting to see if there is mutual interest between the two sides come March.
