It doesn't look like Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green will be returning to the field any time soon.

Green, who has been sidelined since training camp with an ankle injury, says that he is still on the mend:

“If I can go, I can go,” Green said, according to Laurel Pfahler of The Dayton Daily News. “If I can’t, I can’t. It’s no big thing. Like I said from Day 1, if I’m healthy enough to play then I’m going to play. Right now, I still have a little ways to go.”

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was under the impression that Green would be practicing this week, but he missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday. He was also scheduled to run some routes before Cincinnati's game against the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday, but he didn't do that, either.

However, Green says there weren't any setbacks:

“We just didn’t run routes — nothing happened,” Green said. “Like I said, we’re just gonna take our time with it. There’s no need to rush this thing. Like I said from Day 1, I’m gonna have to feel good to get back out there to where I can play at a high level to where I know I can. Just don’t want to rush it back like I did with my toe (last year).”

Green played in just nine games last season due to his toe injury and missed the Pro Bowl for the first time since entering the NFL in 2011. The 31-year-old was originally selected by the Bengals with the fourth overall pick that year.

He logged five straight 1,000-yard seasons to start his career before missing six games in 2016.

Cincinnati has gotten off to an 0-6 start this season.
