The Cincinnati Bengals are still looking for their first win of the 2019 NFL season. As a result, there is growing speculation regarding wide receiver A.J. Green's future with the team.

Green has been sidelined for the winless start while dealing with an ankle injury. He insists that his focus is solely on getting back to 100 percent rather than a potential trade, via the team’s website:

“I tell everybody I haven’t heard anything,” Green said. “I don’t fantasize about anything like that. I’m just trying to get healthy and go from there. I’m prepared for anything. A trade’s not going to change who I am. I’m still going to play. I’m still going to be A.J.”

Green's absence has undoubtedly had a major impact on a Bengals team that ushered in some significant changes this offseason. Now that they are seemingly in the midst of a full-fledged rebuild, there are rumors that the front office could be looking to make a deal for the veteran.

This team has a number of voids they need to fill on their roster before they can hope to become competitive. Meanwhile, Green is at the stage of his career where he would likely want to make a run at a championship. Unfortunately, that does not appear to be happening in Cincinnati any time soon.

The prospect of dealing Green to another team would certainly deal a crushing blow to Bengals fans. However, so would having to watch him toil away his Hall of Fame career without ever getting a real shot to compete for a Super Bowl.
