Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green underwent a minor ankle procedure on Tuesday and could still return week one, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Green suffered an ankle injury during practice at the University of Dayton’s Welcome Stadium, and there were some questions raised about the field condition at the stadium. Bengals coach Zac Taylor said that Green was disappointed with the injury but is proud of the way the wide receiver has handled all the adversity that has come his way.

“I’d be disappointed, too,” Taylor said, via John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “He’s coming back from an injury, then this happens. Obviously, he’s down. We say, ‘you’re A.J. Green. You’ll bounce back from this. You’ll have the season you’re expecting to have.’ I’m proud of the way he’s handled the adversity. I look forward to having him back — whenever that time comes.”

It's good news that Green could be back for week one, but that is barring any setbacks and everything going perfectly. When healthy Green is one of the best wide receivers in the league, but it seems more often than not, the team is missing him.

Last season Green played in only nine games racking up 46 receptions for 694 yards and six touchdowns.

Right now the Bengals are also without John Ross who is dealing with a hamstring injury, but it's not expected to hold him out long. When healthy the Bengals have one of the most talented wide receivers corps in the league, and staying healthy is going to be crucial for the group this year.
