To the Cincinnati Bengals fans who are waiting for AJ Green to return, you'll need to be patient for at least another week. According to Ben Baby of ESPN, Green won't practice this week and has already been ruled out versus the Baltimore Ravens.

In the early stages of training camp, the Bengals' Pro-Bowl wide receiver suffered an ankle injury that was expected to sideline him for at least the first month of the regular season. Now, with September in the rearview mirror, fans are beginning to wonder when they'll see their No. 1 receiver in the offense.

Over the past few seasons, injuries have begun taking a toll on the veteran wide receiver. Altogether, Green has been inactive in 21 games due to injury since 2014 (including the five games in 2019).

Through the first five weeks of the season, Cincinnati has gotten off to an abysmal 0-5 start under rookie head coach Zac Taylor. The Bengals didn't garner expectations as a contender but no one envisioned it being this bad.

With Taylor as the head coach, the team is ranked 10th in the NFL in passing offense. But at the same time, they've only managed to average 16 points per game (fourth-worst in the NFL).

Due to the team's obvious struggles, Taylor and the coaching staff are likely going to take a cautious approach with Green moving forward. Additionally, Green is in a contract year and it would be best for him to be healthy when free agency begins in 2020.

There have been rumors floating around that Green could be traded elsewhere to give Cincinnati some draft capital. However, Green has remained adamant about wanting to finish his career with the team that drafted him in 2011.

Therefore, until his mindset changes, fans will have to wait until he's ready to return to the field this season. For when that will be, it remains to be in flux.
