The Cincinnati Bengals have gotten off to a slow start out of the gate to start the 2017 NFL season after dropping their first two games in disappointing fashion.

Much of this has centered around the porous play of the offense headlined by Andy Dalton's struggles throwing the ball completing just 54.5 percent of his passes for 394 yards with no touchdowns and four interceptions. This has led many to call for a change at the quarterback position.

However, backup AJ McCarron doesn't believe that the fans should jump ship on Dalton, but rather show him continued support through the process, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of Cincinnati.com.

“I wish people would in this city would back him and go with it,” McCarron said. “Listen, I think I’m a great quarterback and I think he’s an unbelievable quarterback. I love him to death. But he’s our quarterback. Stop making it into something else. It’s not into something else. Ride with him. Trust the team. Trust the process. And trust what we are trying to do. And be a fan of who is playing. We are all part of a team.”

McCarron may be voicing words of encouragement toward Dalton, but there is a tremendous sense of urgency from the organization to turn things around as offensive coordinator Ken Zampese was fired last week after the Bengals disappointing 13-9 to the Houston Texans last Thursday.

If this trend continues, it could foreseeably push McCarron into the starting lineup for the first time since 2015 where he made four starts in the regular season in seven appearances compiling 854 passing yards on 66.4 percent completion rate with six touchdowns and two interceptions. He also started in the Bengals' 18-16 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers where he completed 23 of 41 passes for 212 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
