The Super Bowl is still far from over, but the Cincinnati Bengals are likely greatly looking forward to the opportunity to draft Joe Burrow. The LSU quarterback is the consensus first overall pick of the 2020 Draft, and Boomer Esiason is already making a bold claim that will raise the spirits of Bengal fans.

According to Chris Rolling of Bengals Wire, the beloved Bengals icon compared Burrow's potential to that of AFC Champion and 2018 MVP Patrick Mahomes. He believes that Burrow has the arm and talent to succeed in the already-cramped AFC North.

“Too much of an athlete. He’s an under appreciated athlete. He reminds me, in that regard, I don’t know if when Patrick Mahomes came out that people knew the kind of athlete he was. Great baseball player. Great basketball player. He kind of found quarterback because it was awesome and great and it was challenging. I think that’s what this kid is. We all do. Those that played the game recognize why we picked this sport. There’s nothing like playing this position. Especially when you’re successful.”

During his final season at LSU, Joe Burrow finished with 5,671 passing yards and an eye-boggling 60 touchdowns. He also showcased comfort in getting out of the pocket, rushing 115 times for 368 yards and five touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Bengals decided to bench Andy Dalton this season and have a clear need for a long-term quarterback.

Nobody in the collegiate game can contain Joe Burrow, and much of the same is going to be expected out of him once he gets used to the speed of the NFL. The Bengals should be on their way to becoming competitive again once they get their franchise QB.

It may seem unfair to expect Burrow to end up being on the same level as Mahomes during his NFL career, but he has the talent to get it done. It will be up to the Bengals to surround Burrow with weapons as the Chiefs did for Mahomes.
