After coaching his last game for the Los Angeles Rams last night, Zac Taylor is now officially the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals, the team announced earlier today.

Shortly after the Rams finished their season with a 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII, the Bengals announced that they had finalized the hire, with Taylor adding that he was “excited” to begin his time in Cincinnati.

Taylor began his coaching career in the NCAA, where he was a graduate assistant for Texas A&M for three years before moving onto the NFL. There, he’s spent time as a quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, and Los Angeles Rams, where he was also wide receivers coach in 2017.

Now, he’ll return to Cincinnati to try and turn around a team that hasn’t won a playoff game since 1991.

For the Bengals, this will mark their first change at the head coach position since 2003, when Marvin Lewis took over for Dick LeBeau.

For all of the criticism on Lewis, he did turn around a bad culture in Cincinnati, going 131-122-3 in his career there while leading the Bengals to seven playoff appearance and two AFC North division titles.

The Bengals made the playoffs five years in a row between 2011 and 2015, but were unable to win a game, and their losing records began piling up shortly after that.

This past year, the team went 6-10, missing the playoffs for the third season in a row, and will be looking to rebuild on the fly as they try to contend in the AFC North again.
