It doesn't sound like Ryan Finley is going to be seizing the Cincinnati Bengals' starting job anytime soon. The Bengals raised some eyebrows when they drafted Finley in April, but it doesn't seem like he's a serious threat to Andy Dalton at the moment.

With teams ramping up activities and starting their mandatory minicamps, we're getting our first real looks at a lot of the rookie signal-callers. Finley's first pro experience apparently isn't going too well, if you believe the media reports. Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic recently stated flatly that Finley “looks bad.”

“There’s just no way around it. Two ugly passes Tuesday that should have been intercepted by seventh-round pick CB Jordan Brown. It’s still early, but not so early that we can’t begin to wonder what the hell is going on,” Dehner writes.

It's still early, but it doesn't sound like there's a lot to be excited about right now. The N.C. State product was drafted in the fourth round, 104th overall. Dalton has been mediocre the past few years and finished last season on injured reserve. After Marvin Lewis got fired, there was a lot of buzz about the Bengals looking to replace Dalton.

The team's management has been very non-committal toward Dalton, openly saying that he'll need to earn a new contract extension. They've given new coach Zac Taylor a lot of control, and so far he appears to be sticking with Dalton.

There was some speculation that they'd draft a quarterback like Dwayne Haskins in the first round, but they ultimately passed. They picked up Finley as a developmental option, and that's exactly what he'll remain, at least for now.
