The Cincinnati Bengals have signed former New York Giants offensive lineman Bobby Hart. The team announced the signing on their official Twitter account.

Hart, 23, was drafted in the seventh round of the draft in 2015 by the Giants. He started 21 of the 33 games he played in his three seasons in New York, playing both guard and tackle. However, he played in just 10 games during a rough 2017 season which saw him deal with injuries and uneven play.

Hart was waived with an injury designation by the Giants in Week 17. He reportedly refused to play in the team’s last game of the season, which was likely the reason for the move. He returned to the team after clearing waivers, but was officially waived off injured reserve on Feb. 9.

Hart played a significant part in the Giants’ spotty offensive line play. Hart struggled in pass protection as he and left tackle Ereck Flowers failed to adequately protect quarterback Eli Manning on the edges for most of the year. Meanwhile, New York’s long-standing problems running the ball continued and weren’t helped by subpar run blocking.

However, the Bengals had some equally concerning offensive line issues in 2017, especially after losing top linemen in Andrew Whitworth and Kevin Zeitler via free agency last offseason. Even with Hart’s struggles last season in New York, the Bengals are still willing to take a chance on him to see if he can improve in their O-line for next year. It may be a long shot, but it's still worth a shot nonetheless.
