Even the most casual Cincinnati Bengals fan knows how the next couple of months will go. Andy Dalton will leave the Bengals as the team will want Joe Burrow to become the quarterback for the future. However, it seems the trend is pointing towards another direction.

Reports surfaced about the Red Rifle possibly returning for another run with the Bengals. Of course, many still think that he will be traded or cut before the season starts, but there’s no reason for the Bengals to not keep him around as they let Burrow get acclimated to NFL football.

Per Cincinnati Bengals’ Geoff Hobson:

“Andy is such an important guy, such a good guy for us that we’re going to work with him and we’re going to keep him up-to-date on what our plans are,” Tobin said. “Any time you’re at the top of the draft you have to consider every position and we’re going to consider every position and see what we think is best for us going forward. When we make those decisions, we’ll let people know.

Dalton has been a solid quarterback through the nine years he’s been with the team. He’s notched an impressive 31,594 passing yards and 204 touchdowns. He also led the Bengals to consecutive playoff appearances during the first four years of his career.

If he stays for one more year, he may take on the role Eli Manning had with Daniel Jones. He may start for the first couple of weeks before ceding his position to Burrow. He will also give him tips on how to become a pro over the coming days.

It will be a tough adjustment for Dalton to become the backup QB if he doesn’t leave the team by September. It will be interesting to see where things will go from here on out.
