The Cincinnati Bengals have a number of voids to fill on their roster this offseason if they hope to spark a potential resurgence in the 2020 NFL season. It appears defensive end Chris Smith could be looking at a return to Cincinnati.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Bengals are set to meet with Smith:

After visiting the Panthers on Tuesday, former Browns DL Chris Smith is visiting the Bengals today, per source. Smith knows his way around Cincinnati; he played for the Bengals prior to his stint with the Browns.

Smith was taken in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was then traded to Cincinnati for a conditional pick after three seasons in Jacksonville and enjoyed a career year during the 2017 campaign with 26 tackles and three sacks.

Smith's success with the Bengals helped him sign a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns that offseason. Although it appeared as though he had finally found his footing in the NFL, he struggled to etch out an integral role for himself. He ultimately finished the 2019 NFL season with just one tackle before being waived after nine games.

Smith has clearly taken a liking to life in the AFC North and his familiarity with Cincinnati should make for an intriguing option on both sides. More importantly, the addition would help provide some much-needed depth to the pass-rushing department.

It could very well be the first of many moves that help to get this group back on track.
