Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow provided fans with an optimistic update about his timeline to return to the football field, in his first interview since suffering a season-ending knee injury.

“I think I’ll be ready [for Week 1],” Burrow said on FS1, via Pro Football Talk. “I think it’ll be just fine.”

Burrow's exciting rookie season came to a tragic halt when he injured his knee in the Bengals' Week 11 loss to the Washington Football Team on Nov. 22. He underwent successful surgery on Dec. 2 to repair a torn ACL, MCL and other ligament damage in Burrow's knee.

Before he went down, Burrow's performance seemed to validate the franchise's choice to select him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Burrow lamented the fact that he couldn't finish out the season.

“I wanted to finish out the year and finish strong,” Burrow explained to FS1. “I thought there were a lot of winnable games in this part of the schedule that we had, and then the injury happened, and that was devastating for me.”

The 2019 Heisman Trophy and National Champion completed 65.3 percent of his passes and threw for 13 touchdowns against five interceptions over his first 10 career games for the Bengals.

Burrow also expressed his enthusiasm at the news that the organization would bring back head coach Zac Taylor in 2021.

“I think Zac is going to be a great coach for a long time,” Burrow said. “I’m happy to be in the position that I’m in and to help build this organization, but it’s going to be on Zac’s back. He’s the leader of what we’re trying to do, and he’s awesome.”

The Bengals went 4-11-1 this season.
