Joe Burrow has looked impressive in his first two starts with the Cincinnati Bengals. But if you ask him, he doesn't sound completely satisfied with his performance just yet. Burrow believes he needs to integrate more deep passes into his game. Ahead of Cincinnati's Week 3 bout with the Philadelphia Eagles, Burrow spoke about converting big plays in the passing game.

“That’s something that’s an emphasis for me this week, is just getting that right,” Burrow said, via Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “We’ve also just played two styles of defenses that don’t give up big plays and keep everything in front of you and make you check it down and make you work down the field. But we’ve also missed some opportunities to put the ball down the field. We are gonna get more opportunities. We just have to connect on them.”

When Burrow won the Heisman trophy in 2019 at LSU, he never had a shortage of big plays through the air. In his final season at LSU, he posted a 12.5 adjusted yards gained per attempt under center.

On the other hand, in his first two games in the NFL, Burrow has been forced to check down more than he'd like. The No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has recorded a mere 5.4 adjusted yards gained per attempt. He also isn't accustomed to losing much, but the Bengals currently boast an 0-2 record.

For the Bengals' first two weeks, Burrow has faced defenses in the Los Angeles Chargers and the Cleveland Browns that kept everything in front of them. Luckily for Burrow, the Eagles have given up 11.3 yards per completion this season (11th most in the NFL). Given that, the rookie signal-caller should have more chances to push the ball down the field in Week 3.
